Yamaha 100-110cc...coming soon

India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has set up a new facility, the Yamaha Motor Research & Development Indian (YMRI) unit at Surajpur, Uttar Pradesh, where development is already underway on new motorcycles.
It is here at this R&D centre that Yamaha has commenced development on an all new, low cost motorcycle that will fit into the high volumes commuter segment of the Indian market, and be considered for exports to suitable foreign markets. Target pricing for the new bike is close to Rs 40,000, and this next Yamaha will use an engine displacing approximately 110cc, taking on the likes of Hero’s Splendor and Passion X Pro, Honda’s Dream Yuga and CB Twister, Bajaj’s Discover 100T, TVS’s Star series bikes and the Suzuki Hayate.
The new centre becomes Yamaha’s second integrated development centre after Thailand, and their fifth R&D wing outside Japan, after Italy, Taiwan, China and Thailand. Yet another Yamaha R&D centre is to spring up in Chennai also, where this Japanese giant will focus on making low-cost scooters and other India specific models, today developed for us in Japan.
Expect Yamaha’s Indian motorcycle and scooter prices to drop in future, given that development costs for new bikes and scooters in India is approximately half that of similar development in Japan.

Royal Enfield café racer, Continental GT, coming soon.....

Royal Enfield is on a roll and how! For fans of the single cylinder thumpers, the good news is that its café racer model named Continental GT will go on sale in showrooms later this year.
The bike was first displayed during Auto Expo 2010 and is now ready to hit the market 3 years later and it seems the company has taken its time to get things just right.
The retro design is spot on and features some tasty specs as well.

some features of caferacer
  • Fuel Injected 535cc, air-cooled single, Unit Construction Engine. Higher revving due to re-mapped ECU and lighter flywheel
  • The Continental GT will be the fastest and most powerful production Royal Enfield motorcycle
  • 15 Kg lighter than the Thunderbird 500
  • Improved handling as a result of new tubular steel double down-tube and cradle design for the chassis
  • Chunky Paioli developed gas shocks at the rear with Pirelli tyres
  • Serious stopping power with Single full-floating Brembo front disc and ByBre single disc at the rear
The Continental GT features styling that is reminiscent of the original 250cc Continental GT launched in 1965! The original bike was described to have "big-bore carb, swept-back exhaust, clip-on bars, humpy racing seat, and a right-red fuel tank in glass-fibre adorned with the "Royal Enfield" name in big white letters."
Royal Enfield has stuck to the template and a good thing too. The Continental GT will sit right at the top of Royal Enfield's range and will be expensive as well (The Thunderbird 500 cc already approaches the Rs 2 Lakh mark). While newer and more modern motorcycles can be had at the price, Royal Enfield has marketed its motorcycles brilliantly.
The new Unit Construction Engine (UCE) has been well received and senior officials have indicated that there is a lot more than can be done with the engine. Royal Enfield sold 75,000 units in 2011 and is targeting sales of 150,000 units in 2013, with export sales at around 7500 units. A supply bottleneck, quality niggles and long waiting periods for its motorcycles have been a bug bear over the last couple of years. This will be taken care of this year as its second manufacturing unit at Oragadam near Chennai begins production.

Official – Honda Amaze to launch in India on April 11

Through a countdown timer on its official website, Honda India has confirmed the launch of the Amaze on the 11th of April.

The Amaze is Honda’s first diesel car in India. Even internationally, Honda’s a very inexperienced player in the diesel market with just three engines to their name prior to the introduction of the 1.5L unit.
Their first launch was on the Accord in 2003 with the 2.2L i-CTDi engine followed by the launch of the CR-V with the improved 2.2L i-DTEC engine. The 1.6L i-DTEC engine was launched last year and is today available on the Civic and CR-V in Europe, while the 1.5L i-DTEC, a derivative of this motor and the fourth member in the family, premieres in India this month on the Amaze.

the Amaze will come in three powertrain options – 1.2L petrol with a 5-speed MT, 1.2L petrol with a 5-speed AT and the 1.5L diesel with a 5-speed MT. Their respective ARAI-rated fuel economy figures are 18 kmpl, 15.5 kmpl and 25.8 kmpl.
Compared to the Brio, the Amaze is about 60mm longer and has a cushier rear seat with a central arm rest. A compact boot has been cohesively integrated into the C-Pillar raising the boot volume to 400 liters. In other respects, the Brio and Amaze are identical.
The Honda Amaze should be priced at about 30-40k rupees over the Maruti Swift Dzire for every variant.

250 CC Yamaha!!!!!!!...............coming soon

India Yamaha Motor CEO Hiroyuki Suzuki confirmed that although Yamaha is currently concentrating on scooters, a Yamaha 250 is also currently being developed. The 250 would be completely made in India to keep the pricing competitive and would be exported to various markets around the world.

But there could be a slight twist in the tale. The fight in the sub 500cc category is currently between the new Ninja 250/300, the KTM 200/390 and the CBR500 trio and it only makes sense to think that Yamaha would want a piece of this pie. Do remember that Bajaj and Suzuki would also be stepping into this segment soon. So we at IAMABIKER believe that there is a good probability that Yamaha would have different versions of the 250, if not higher capacity versions, rolling out in the near future. First, a naked 250 to test the Indian market possibly in 2013, and then head on for a 250+ full-faired motorcycle to take on the competition in style. And if you remember correctly, it wont be the first time that a Yamaha bike is launched before its ‘official’ expected date. Design-wise, the naked could be a proper street fighter taking in slight design cues from the existing Yamaha naked’s. Coming to the faired version, like we said initially it would definitely take design cues from its bigger brothers the R1 and R6, which by the way will also be totally updated for 2014. The naked Yamaha 250 and the faired 250+ bike could definitely be capable of giving its competitors, namely the Honda CBR250R, the Ninja 250/300 and the Hyosung GT250R, a run for their money in terms of power and pricing.
The wait is almost painful now, and honestly, a 250+ bike from Yamaha is something that a lot of people are waiting for. Yamaha is a brand which owns a good set of loyal customer in the Indian market, which automatically means that there has been a good amount of waiting in expectation of a 250+ to take on the competition. And we do not yet know how much this has tarred the brand value of Yamaha in terms of customer loyalty. An official confirmation now raises expectations from Yamaha to an all new level.
